Scripture days

 This summer I decided to do a "Scripture day" with my kids.  We read a story out of our scriptures, learn about it and then do an activity to reinforce it.  For our first week we did Daniel and the Lions den.  We talked about how important prayer is and the things we pray for.  We looked online to figure out how big a lion is and then made a lion that big.  On our lion we wrote the things we pray for and the things we are grateful for.  The kids loved doing it, plus we did a little science, math, writing, and art (look at the face of this thing)

 The next week we did Lehi's dream.  Once again we read the scriptural account and then we made a diagram of his dream.  We talked about what all of these things symbolized  and how we can apply it to our lifes. (i.e. what temptations we are faced with, how we can stay holding onto the word of God).

The kids did so good giving answers and then figuring out what to use for our diagram.

 We have a licorice 'iron rod" held up by cookies and sticks. The straight and narrow path is a fruit by the foot.  The mists of darkness was jello that didn't set up.  The tree of life was a carrot with a lettuce leaf and marshmallows.  The dark river was pudding and the great and spacious building was a graham cracker house, which crumbled just as I was talking about how the pride of the world would one day crumble.  It turned out to be a fantastic day, and the kids LOVED it.  Spencer said, That was the coolest thing we have done mom.

 After we were through talking about the scripture story the kids loved eating it all.  You would think they hadn't eaten for years the way they were inhaling this stuff.

Running

 The kids hiked up this steep hill and then ran down it.  It made me so nervous, but thankfully none of them fell down as they were cruising down this hill.  It was so funny to watch their faces as they made it to the bottom.

Cocoa would go up to the top and then would take his turn running down also.  One time Shianne was running down and Cocoa started after her.  He came so close to knocking her down, but hurried and dodged her at the last second, and then came barreling down and jumped between Solayna and I, and I was holding Solayna.  Crazy dog.

Falling Rocks

 Brooke was trying to entertain Solayna while the kids walked up this steep hill.  He started throwing rocks up and then saying "where did that come from"  She would get looking so high up into the sky, and then he would throw another one.  It was hilarious to watch.

 Brooke was pointing out where one of the rocks had gone.  She was still mystified as to where the things came from.

I'm so grateful for an amazing husband who is so good at entertaining kids and playing with them.

Spear grass wars

 There is a plant here that grows little spears on it, and oh boy do my boys love it.  Whenever they see it, watch out, because a spear grass war will soon begin. These little spears hurt, they actually go through your clothes, so I don't like getting into these wars to much, but my boys sure do.  Spencer is even smiling, as Brooke is pulling spears out of his jacket.

 Brooke gets into it so much.  He was jumping over rocks and throwing the spears, and then running behind trees.  It was pretty funny to watch him.

 Solayna didn't like it to much either.  I don't think she could quite figure out what was going on,

so she played with Cocoa.

Cutting down the crab apple tree

 The boys really wanted to cut down this crab apple tree, and since it was on our ultimate Frisbee field, we decided to cut it down.  Brooke gave the hand saw to the boys, figuring it would keep them busy for a while.

 After a while Spencer got tired of it, so Brooke pulled out the chainsaw.  The kids all have learned to protect their ears around loud things.

 TIMBER!!!

 The next morning we pulled out the 4-wheeler, and got to work pulling out the stump.  The kids tried to help by pulling on the rope also.  Solayna loved riding on the back of Brooke on the 4-wheeler.

After a while we finally got it up.  It's so nice to have one less tree to worry about, and to have  a bigger playing field.

Hole in the Rock Play

 These are the best pictures I got of the kids.  They were all being silly.

 No I'm not expecting in real life, I just stuffed a pillow up my shirt for this first part of the play.  I even waddled across the stage extra slow.

Brooke was "John" and was so worried, in the play and before.  He was so funny, he was so stressed before the play about his lines.  He did a great job though.

Dancing at Dance Hall Rock

Christmas Morning the kids came out and found socks with cookies and candy.  The kids were so excited they started eating their candy, even though they had to sing right then.

The kids sang, Can you believe that Santa found us down here in the rocks?  and Shianne said, "He did, he found us in the rocks!!  All sang, Can you believe that jolly fellow found and filled our socks? Sam said, "He did, he filled our socks!!"

Sam had a speaking part,and said, "mother drove the wagon up a sidling hill and tipped the wagon over.  Thank goodness the baby in the back was not hurt, but Mother was sure in a frenzy with fright!!"

All of us singing, "Beautiful San Juan Valley"  I'm bummed that every time my sis went to take a picture, Solayna was behind someone, but she is there with us, right on my hip.

After the play, Andrea made sure we got at least one picture of Solayna's face.

 

We had a great time being in the play and especially since we could do it as a family.   The kids thought it was awesome and weren't even scared to get up there.  I was so proud that they did their lines, and didn't stumble at all over them.
